Hi Danny,
Just a question about the the top of your model. You have a layer there that's called the Upper/Lower Hemisphere. The upper hemisphere represents the sky where the plane of the Earth is directly above the pole of the sky. For example, we are looking down at the North Pole and the bottom layer represents the Southern Hemisphere. Now this layer is called the Upper/Lower Hemisphere because the Earth is spherical in shape and the top and bottom layers are created by looking at the hemisphere that represents the pole of the Earth. Now, my question is do you think the sphere of the Earth is laying flat on the horizon or tilted upward and then angled over? I would think it would be tilted over and then angled over, but I don't know what my reasoning is. I do know that we can't actually see the full sphere of the Earth, only a hemisphere at a time.

Dear Robert,
The sphere is tilted over relative to the horizon. Look at the picture on page 50 of "Fuller's Earth Satellite News" (ISSN 0018-8530), which is published by the US Air Force. In the picture, the horizon is directly at the top of the drawing, so that the horizon is also at the same level as the sphere's equator, while the Earth's equator is tilted away from the horizon by about 30 degrees.

I would like to use this model to explain to my kids about the different ways we get information about the world around us. be359ba680
